My Mother is a Special Lady

Please forgive me, that I have not updated the blog. My mom is doing much better. She is able to get out of bed on her own and walk around! It is so wonderful to see how much she has progressed the last few weeks. I am so proud of her, she is such a strong person. She has been moved from Barnes Hospital to Kindred Hospital right up the street. It is a smaller hospital that focuses on rehabilitation. This move to Kindred is another step closer to her being home.! Yay! There are still days with small set backs but that is to be expected with her type of illness. Please continue to pray for her, for strength, courage, and healing. Thank you to everyone who has been helping out my family, and to those who have made special trips to see her and keep her company. She is in good spirits and she is ready to come home! I LOVE YOU MOM! I MISS YOU!

Let go.....and let God

The last two days have started off slow, mom has been NPO aka not allowed to eat for the last two days. Although, today was a day filled with great news! They will be transferring her to a rehab facility in St. Louis tomorrow! St. Anthony's Hospital is the name of the facility. That was not the only good news today, her doctor told her today that in about two months they will have her back in St. Louis to remove all the drains and reverse her ileostomy if everything goes according to plan. My mom called me today to let me know the great news we both cried with joy. She is so happy and excited! It brings tears to my eyes now just thinking about it. I can't even begin to thank everyone enough for all the prayers and support. It is so touching to see how much love and support there has been. I thank God so much for blessing my family and my mother with thoughtful and caring people who have been lifting us up! THANK YOU ALL! We LOVE you all! Please keep praying for a smooth recovery and more good days to come! I love you, mom and I am so happy for your good news!
Be strong and courageous, do not discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
*The doctor let her have popsicles today! :)

Slowing Down

The last two days have been great days of relaxtion for mom. They have removed the drain on her left side and consolidated them into one. So now instead of having five drains she only has three. This is a great thing. My uncle Eric and I got her into the bathroom to and finally washed her hair with shampoo and water. She also got her hair blow dryed and styled. She was thrilled!
Unfortunately, today one of the resident doctors came in and informed us that the leak was still leaking and not completely healed. Therefore, she will not be able to eat for the next two days, ice chips is all. Please pray for her this is not the kind of news we were expecting and she is bummmed she can't eat. They are still optimistic that the leak will heal itself just not sure on the time frame. She feels good and is in high spirits considering the situation. The doctors are saying now that instead of going to the Herrin Rehab she may be going to a wound care facility in St. Louis. We are still not for sure on the date of her release it all depends on how she heals. I LOVE YOU MOM! Hang in there!

Enjoying The View

The last couple days have been good days! Yesterday, they put mom on a liquid diet and she got to eat bomb pops! She also had enough strength to walk from her bed to the doorway, she is getting stronger everyday. They also removed some staples from her incision to relieve some pressure from her stomach last night.
The liquid diet did not last very long she was able to eat solid foods for lunch today, her first real meal in 6 days! Hooray! She also received some occupational and physical therapy this afternoon. Dr. Safar said that she may be released from the hospital this weekend. She will then be sent to Herrin Rehab for about a week. This all depends on how the infection heals up. Right now she is doing good, watching TV, relaxing, eating real food, and enjoying her view of St. Louis from her room! I Love You Mommy! Hang in there!

The Events Leading Up To Now

On February 8th my mom was admitted into St. Joseph Memorial Hospital for high blood pressure and chest pain. They then discovered that her gallbladder was only working 4% and needed to be removed. Dr. Frederick Dressen performed a laproscopic surgery on February 12th.
On Sunday February 13th she was admitted again to St. Joseph Hospital for abdominal pain. After a couple days she was transferred to Memorial Hospital to have surgery. The surgery was to repair two sections of her colon and was in recovery from February 15th to the 23rd.
Unfortunately, an infection had shown up on the CT scan. Dr. Dressen decided to perform another surgery where he would remove the infection. Things seemed to be looking up after this surgery she was moved from ICU to the IMCU and was able to eat. She was so spoiled with great food from Mary Lou's, Thai Taste, and Wendy's. Then, on March 3 the doctor ordered a CT scan to check on her progress and they found a small leak where her colon had been repaired. After many weeks of highs and lows Keith decided that it would be best for her to be transferred to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
So far her stay in St. Louis has been good the doctors inserted a drain to help the leak repair. She has been up walking this morning and sitting in her chair watching TV. She has also been enjoying her beautiful window view from the seventeenth floor. Today was also a great day because her CT scan read that there was no new infection. GOOD DAY!  I love you mom!

PS I got my mom a dry erase board to write bible versus and positive affirmations for her to read everyday to keep her going! I will post them on her also :)

My Mother is Loved By so Many.

My mother, Carol Klaine has been in the hospital  for twenty seven days now. Her journey has been long and complicated. The phone calls, text messages and Facebook conversations have been endless. I can't even begin to explain how touching it has been to see how many people love and care about my mother. This blog is going to be all about her and to update everyone about her progress. As much as I love to talk about my mother and how well she is doing some days updating everyone can get a little bit tiresome. I will update this blog as much as I can to keep everyone updated! Thank you so much to everyone who has been there for my family and I through this journey. I love you all!
